A ceremony was held on January 30 on the southern square of the People's Park in Guangzhou to mark the launch of the "Civilized Transport Action Program" of Guangdong province and Guangzhou municipality. The ceremony was officiated by Guangzhou Vice Mayor Chen Guo, who also presented flags to the citizens' supervisory squad and the volunteers' team which had been formed to ensure orderly public transport.
Vice Mayor Chen stated that the three-year "Civilized Transport Action Program" is a response to the call of the National Teleconference on the "Civilized Transport Action Program" and a major move to ensure the success of the upcoming Asian Games and Asian Para Games in Guangzhou. The program involves campaigns for promoting safety, smoothness and order of public transport.
