Duty-free Logistics Center Opens

Duty-free Logistics Center Opens

Write: Stoddard [2011-05-20]
Guangzhou Airport Duty-free Logistics Center, the first one of its kind in Guangdong, officially started operation at 10 AM on January 28. On the same day, four logistics service providers commenced duty-free warehousing operations for electronic, medical and mechanical products at the center.
The center features remarkable cost effectiveness thanks to its designation as an "independent customs territory". The cost of warehousing at the center is merely a fraction of that of Hong Kong. It takes a day and costs 7,000 to 9,000 Hong Kong dollars for goods for deep processing to transit via Hong Kong. In comparison, it takes just two to four hours and costs 800 to 1,500 dollars at the center.
The center is among the major projects on Guangzhou's Eleventh Five-Year Plan and China's only duty-free logistics center invested by an air carrier (Southern Airlines). It has a site area of 300,000 square meters and a zoned floor area of 110,000 square meters. It's located within the customs-supervised area, bounded by Huadu Avenue on the north, the Airport Cargo Transport Area on the south, the northern extension of the Airport Expressway on the west, and Airport Avenue on the East.
