China Mobile Group, once the partner of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, is now the official partner of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games.
As the largest mobile service operator in the country, China Mobile can draw the attention of its millions of subscribers to the Asian Games via various interaction activities and thus increase the popularity of the event, Hong Xiaoqing, vice general manager of China Mobile Group Guangdong Company Limited, said during an interview. Meanwhile, advanced 3G technologies like TD-SCDMA can contribute to an informationised and digitalised Asiad, he added. Rich experience accumulated by the company in terms of network security and service provision during the Beijing Olympics will guarantee a better service for the Asiad. For example, the take-and-send-photos service, i.e. the installment of a special wireless device which will enable photojournalists at the event to send photos back to the editing room immediately after they shoot. The device has been used and acclaimed by some reporters and media during the Beijing Olympics. Another service was the launch of the mobile version of the official Olympics website. China Mobile will draw on its successes in the Beijing Olympics to customise for the Asiad the most wonderful and innovative businesses and services with Guangdong features, Hong Xiaoqing said.
China Mobile promises a "Digital Asiad" featuring the most sophisticated technologies, the most professional services and the most wonderful products. Full TD coverage will be realised in the host city and co-host cities of the event. A series of businesses and services including wireless broadband access, mobile TV service, mobile payment, e-tickets and mobile Asiad newspaper will be launched. Moreover, application programmes concerning informationised management of venues and sporting events, intelligent transportation system and mobile phone GPS will be custom-made. All of these technologies, services and products will show to the world the wonder of Thrilling Games, Harmonious Asia in the 3G era.
Hong Xiaoqing released that China Mobile has customised 28 information products of six categories for the Games and designed a dozen information services for the general public to watch and participate in the event. All the products and services are meant to provide each citizen an easy and quick access to the Asiad and every Asiad worker an efficient and scientific management system.
