After a feasibility study which has lasted for months, the Guangzhou government has decided to build a small organic waste treatment plant for the city's kitchen waste.
Officials from the urban management commission revealed that in the next 5 years, Guangzhou will be able to treat all organic waste coming from the city's restaurants and households which accounts for about 50% of all waste produced in Guangzhou. In 10 years time, waste sorting and recycling is expected to be applied to the entire city with color-coded dustbins dedicated to different waste materials.
A recent trial-run was successfully held on Donghu Road but it is still a long way to apply waste sorting procedures to the entire metropolis.
