Guangzhou's population is constantly growing, attracting hundreds of thousands of new inhabitants every year. Statistics published yesterday (Mar. 4th) by the Municipal Bureau of Statistics show that the city's permanent population reached 10.25 million inhabitants in 2009, accounting for 10.7% of the province's total population. This number however does not include the city's floating population, mainly low qualified migrant workers who man the PRD factories.
China's 6th population census will begin on November 1st, 2010. For the first time, the census shall include foreign residents and those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan living in Chinese Mainland.
