"Housing problem" appears to be a hot topic in the national "two sessions", and the uncurbed rising house prices in Guangzhou is also one of the focuses. On the evening of March 7, Xie Xiaodan, Secretary of Guangzhou Land and Resources Bureau said in an interview that Guangzhou plans to construct a new batch of flats for low-income citizens covering about 3 million square meters this year, which will benefit about 40,000 families.
In this year's Government Work Report, Premier Wen Jiabao proposed to "continue to implement the large-scale housing project for low-income citizens". Xie Xiaodan declared that in order to implement the requirements of the central government, Guangzhou government will strive to carry out the housing projects this year, with a plan to start new batches of flats, the figure of which is equivalent to the total number of flats built from 2006 to 2009, which also equals 1/3 of Guangzhou's commercial residential buildings in 2009. Among them, about 23,000 units fall into low-rent category and 17,000 units are affordable ones or for rental purpose.
