Located in the middle of the city, Ersha Island has long been a great place for evening walks, Sunday afternoon bike rides, and of course, the main place to find quality art exhibitions and concerts. But not so known is a vast area of relative wilderness, a haven of peace at the center of Guangzhou.
After deciding that better landscape management was required, the municipal government has recently started a huge operation to set-up a proper park. Goodbye wilderness. Twenty million Yuan have been set aside to develop new paths, scenic areas, recreational facilities and new trees and plants.
Citizens and enterprises have been invited to purchase and plant trees which would allow them to name the trees; the only condition being never to cut them down.
