Up to 810,000 cars in Guangzhou may be restrained on the road to provide a better air environment for the Guangzhou Asian Games. According to the Guangzhou Bureau of Environmental Protection, several plans have been proposed for traffic restrictions, including limiting cars with even or odd numbered license plates and polluted vehicles.
A trial performance will be held in the city for four consecutive days in June. A larger scale restriction on vehicles will be enforced in the Pearl River Delta region in September. Governmental cars are also encouraged to stop. The details of traffic restrictions will be decided according to the performance and announced later.
