Liwan district will soon have a new shopping ambassador in the form of a robot. China s first female robot is designed to look like a typical Chinese girl: she is 1.66 meters tall, has long dark hair but does have one advantage over many young Cantonese women: she speaks and understands Mandarin, Cantonese and English.
This young beauty is programmed to answer a considerable number of questions related to clothes and fashion: what kinds of clothes suit me best? Which brands are more ladylike? If you doubt her judgment, you can also ask her more personal questions or even ask her to sing a song or recite a poem However, for the time being this lady robot has limited facial expressions. She can wink, nod her head, and open and close her mouth.
The robot was invented by the Institute of Automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) and was previously on display in a science center. She would no doubt have been forgotten had a shopping mall in Liwan district not offered to host her; but now the deputy manager of the mall has great plans for her: In the future, we ll probably marry this beautiful robot so she can develop a family.
