The excavation of what shall become the largest artificial lake in downtown Guangzhou was put underway at 9am yesterday morning (Mar 29th) in Haizhu district.
The lake is expected to be completed before the end of September. Located at the convergence of six rivers, the lake should cover over 9,000 hectares improving the ecological balance in the neighborhood and serving as a water reservoir capable of holding 1.05 million cubic meters of water.
With emphasize placed on ecological diversity, the designers have also chosen to build two islands in the center of the lake for sightseeing and leisure activities.
