The 16th Asian Games, part of the worldwide Olympic movement and governed by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is pleased to announce that 183 youth from varied parts of Asia will be selected to participate in the Asian Games Youth Camp this November.
The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.
Among the 183 youth that will attend the Asian Games Youth Camp:
92 will be recruited internationally including 88 recommended by each of the 44 Asian National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and four international prize winners in The 16th Asian Games Youth Across Asia Art & Essay Writing Competitions, and
91 will be recruited on the Chinese Mainland, including 85 recommended by the committee of the Communist Youth League of China in each province, autonomous region and municipality directly under the Central Government and six domestic prize winners in The 16th Asian Games Youth Across Asia Art & Essay Writing Competitions, and 25 youth members will be coming from Guangdong Province.
Domestic members must be above 16 years old and under 18 with solid English communication skills, innovative spirit and personal integrity. As for international camp members, each NOC has been asked by organizers to recommend two - a young man and a young woman - between the ages of 16 and 18, who must be physically healthy and readily communicate in English.
Last November, GAGOC handed out invitation letters and application forms to Chefs de Mission of the 44 NOCs, launching the international selection of Asian Games Youth Camp members while the domestic selection was launched on January 15, 2010.
All the 183 youth camp members will be confirmed by the end of June.
The slogan of The 16th Asian Games Youth Camp is "Welcome, Future!" and will open in Guangzhou on November 10 and close November 21.
