The first affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-sen University signed a medical service agreement with the Italian consulate yesterday, the first agreement of the kind.
The numbers of foreign patients has been rising in recent years, especially during the Canton Fair. Italian Consul-General Paolo Miraglia del Giudice said that it is hard for Italians in Guangzhou to see a doctor, for few doctors actually speak English. Vice-Dean Chen Yajin said that medical services in Europe and North America are of very high quality and that Europeans and Americans tend to return home if seriously ill. However, they can be interested in Chinese traditional medicine and are willingly to try acupuncture and massage therapy.
For people from other Asian countries, Africa and Latin America, often come to Guangzhou to undergo surgeries at lower price.
