Ahead of the Guangzhou Asian Games will shall open in November, 71.6 kilometres of new lines will open connecting all sporting venues and Baiyun Airport with downturn Guangzhou. Within the year, construction shall also begin on lines 6, 7 and 9.
According to the Urban Transportation Plan, nine lines are expected to open by 2015 at which time Guangzhou shall boast a metro network totalling 248.7 Kilometres. By 2020, Guangzhou will have 16 metro lines connecting downturn Guangzhou with all districts and city's under the administration of Guangzhou authorities (Panyu, Huadu, Nansha, Luogang, Zengcheng and Conghua). By 2040, there will be 20 new railway lines interconnecting Guangzhou and all 11 city's in the Pearl River Delta.
