New Regulations for Better Air Quality

Write: Kelsey [2011-05-20]
Ahead of the 2010 Asian Games, various measures will soon be tested to guarantee good air quality in November. Limiting vehicles and suspending construction work are the main ways the local government hopes to cut air pollution.
A measure to limit the number of cars on the roads by only allowing vehicles with even or odd license plates on alternative days will be tested from the 17th to the 20th of July before being fully implemented on November 1st. This should cut by 600,000 the number of vehicles on the roads and if the situation deteriorates further, even government vehicles will be kept off the roads.
Starting August 1st, vehicles with large emissions will be restricted from entering downtown Guangzhou and after October 12th, banned from all districts in the city.
Finally, all construction sites in Guangzhou shall suspend work from September 30th to December 20th whilst pollution industries will temporally close from October 20th to December 30th.
