Huangpu Ancient Village in eastern Haizhu District, which boasts a history of nearly a thousand years, is home to 51 ancient structures, making the village "a living museum" in the Lingnan region.
According to Haizhu District officials, after the commencement of the renovation of municipal infrastructure facilities and building fa ade, construction will soon kick off to restore the ancient structures in the historic village. The first phase of the restoration project will involve nine ancient structures, each of which will have a tailor-made restoration scheme.
Huangpu Village has 51 confirmed ancient structures, including 16 ancestral halls, two private schools, one temple, one garden, 29 private residences, and two shopping streets. This ancient village was designated as a cultural heritage site by Guangzhou authorities in 2002. The nine structures to be restored include the Liang and Hu clans' ancestral halls, the Chaojianghu ancestral mall, the Zuoheng and Duansheng private schools, the Japanese building, the Ziya mansion, the Gupo house, and Liangxun's former residence.
The project is aimed at restoring the structures to their original condition. Damaged structural and functional components will be restored to their original condition on the basis of archeological findings.
The restoration works for the nine ancient structures are slated to be completed by the end of this year. Moreover, a tower building of the ancient style will be constructed at the southern gate to the village.
