A new sea route connecting Guangzhou and Macau opened yesterday (Jun. 29th) with two ferries sailing in each direction every day. Each ferry can carry a maximum of 380 passengers on a journey which lasts 80 minutes instead of over 2 hours by land. Unfortunately this new service is unlikely to appeal to those in a hurry as the boat departs from Nansha port, far from downtown Guangzhou and the city's main transport hubs. Furthermore, a return ticket shall cost 360 Yuan, far more expensive than the regular buses currently connecting the two cities. Citizens could get a 50% discount at the promotion period.
