Guangzhou s first sports theme park is expected to open in early September on Er Sha Island. Covering 13,000 square meters, the park cost 7 million Yuan to build and boasts 2 basketball courts, 3 badminton courts, a football pitch as well as other sporting facilities.
The spokesman of the Yuexiu Sports Bureau explains that "the park is free and open 24 hours per day as there are no walls surrounding the park and there is sufficient lighting to use the facilities during the evening."
However, people wishing to use certain facilities shall have to pay a fee due to the high demand in Guangzhou. "People always like ball games," said the spokesman, "so users will have to pay a small fee to allow everyone a fair chance to play."
