GZ Mayor opens 2nd World Press Briefing

The Mayor of Guangzhou, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province and Vice President of Asian Games organisers GAGOC, Wan Qingliang, gave the opening address at the 2nd World Press Briefing for the 16th Asian Games at the Garden Hotel on Thursday, July 22. The city mayor pointed out that there were 113 days to go to the opening of the Games on November 12, and said that since the 1st World Press Briefing in December the organising committee had taken further steps to perfect preparations for the 10,000 media expected to attend.

"We will try our best to provide better services and conditions for the media, and improve the environment, transportation, air quality and water quality," he said.
"Guangzhou is the city of flowers and Guangzhou is ready to host the Asian Games with great enthusiasm and to embrace our guests from all over the world."

The Chairman of the Olympic Council of Asia's Media Committee, Manuel Silverio, welcomed over 200 delegates from 75 media organisations to the "dynamic city" of Guangzhou on behalf of the OCA President, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

"At the 1st World Press Briefing last December we shared ideas and conducted effective communication to improve the services to the media. Communication plays an incredible and vital role to the overall success of the Games," said Mr Silverio.
"This 2nd World Press Briefing is timely and necessary as preparations continue at a rapid pace. Together we can make them better with your participation and contribution."
The event runs from July 20-23, and included a venue tour and welcome banquet on July 21.
