The 9th Meeting of the OCA Coordination Committee for the Guangzhou Asian Games is held on Monday.
Yang Shu'an, Vice President of the Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) and Vice Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, Xu Ruisheng, Executive Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC and Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, Wei Jizhong, Honorary Life Vice President of the OCA, Tsunekazu Takeda, Chairman of the OCA Coordination Committee, and Husain A H Z Al-Musallam, Director General of the OCA, attended the meeting.
Gu Shiyang, Deputy Secretary General of GAGOC and Guangzhou Municipal Government, delivered a report on general preparations for the 2010 Asian Games. Among the Games' 70 competition and independent training venues, 67 have been delivered and the other three will be delivered at the end of August; 48 venue operation teams have started work at 53 competition venues, while 31 teams for non-competition venues and specific tasks have been established and will undergo three-month training, rehearsals and tests; the Main Operation Centre will be put into use at the end of August.
Mr Gu also briefed members of the OCA Coordination Committee on the registration of participating delegations and important dates in the lead-up to the Opening Ceremony of the Games.
Representatives of different GAGOC departments gave presentations on the latest preparations in different areas, including competition organisation, venue construction, information technology, broadcasting and media services, medical services and anti-doping measures as well as Games protocol.
The OCA Coordination Committee was very satisfied with GAGOC's work. And the OCA and GAGOC agreed to keep all existing policies and procedures of the 16th Asiad to ensure smooth operations of the Games.
Members of the OCA, the General Administration of Sport of China and GAGOC and observers from the Incheon Asian Games Organising Committee attended the meeting, which was the last OCA Coordination Committee Meeting for the Guangzhou Asian Games (the first one was held on November 7, 2006).
On August 8, the OCA held a seminar between its Medical Committee Sub Commission & Anti-Doing Commission and the Medical Services Department of GAGOC. On the afternoon of August 10, the OCA Athletes Committee Meeting will be held in Guangzhou.
