Central Axis Square Nears Completion

Write: Alfons [2011-05-20]
Construction of the new urban central axis and the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games is wrapping up. Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang visited the new central axis square, the "air corridor" at Zhujiang New Town, the centralized cold supply station, and the spectator stands at Haixinsha on September 5.
During the visit, Mayor Wan stated that with the completion of a number of major construction projects, Guangzhou's "urban living room" has largely taken shape. He called upon the builders and related government agencies to speed up the construction to ensure that the new central axis and the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games will be completed on schedule. He also required the core area of Zhujiang New Town to be a model for eco-friendly, low-carbon and energy-efficient construction practices.

The centralized cold supply center at the core area of Zhujiang New Town, the only garden-style one of its kind in China, involves the installation of a piece of equipment underground which weighs 30,000 tons and have a generating capacity of 10,000 tons. The project will supply cold air to the underground space of Zhujiang New Town, the underground mass transit system, the grand theater, and the new library.

If most buildings at the core area of Zhujiang New Town have centralized cold supply, the air temperature in certain locations within the town can be lowered by two to three degrees centigrade.
