The Guangzhou Municipal Governemnt recently published the Opinions on Speeding up the Development of Bioindustry. According to this new policy, bioindustry is placed into the key development areas of Guangzhou high-tech industry, and biomedicine, modern Chinese medicine, bioagriculture, bioproduction and bioservice are decided as the five key development programs. Efforts are made to enhancing the support of financial and tax policies and promote the construction of a national bioindustry base and national medicine export base in Guangzhou so as to build Guangzhou into the first-class comprehensive bioindustry base in China. From this year on, the Municipal Reform and Development Department will allocate more than 50 million RMB each year for organizing and implementing the special program of bioindustry, and supporting the innovation and industrialization programs of biotechnology and the infrastructure construction of national biochemistry base in Guangzhou. The Municipal Science and Information Department will allocate more than 50 million RMB each year as special funds for supporting the research on key bioindustrial problems. Besides, the Guangzhou Municipal Government will arrange special funds out of the municipal technological innovation funds for the introduction of excellent biotechnology and absorption of re-innovation programs, providing a maximum of 30 percent of R&D funds.
