Guangzhou raked in tourism revenues of RMB 4.9 billion during the National Day Holidays, up 14.62% from the same period last year. Guangzhou Tower, the city's new icon, received 76,858 visitors during the week, averaging more than 10,000 per day.
During the week, a number of new landmarks, notably Guangzhou New TV Town, the new building of Guangdong Museum and Guangzhou Opera House, were opened to the public for the first time. Dozens of tourist attractions throughout the city were also opened to the public free of charge, attracting an endless stream of local residents and tourists. Guangzhou Tower proved the hottest tourist attraction during the holidays. The city's Nanhu Travel Agency's local packaged tours attracted nearly 500 tourists per day.
As of 7:30 PM on October 7, Guangzhou Tower received 76,858 visitors, averaging nearly 11,000 a day. On October 4 alone, 13,556 visitors ascended to the top of the tower.
