A glance at Huahai Square(Guangzhou Daily)
Huahai Square
After five years of intensive construction, Guangzhou's new central axis in Zhujiang New Town is near completion. At present people can already discover Huahai Square which extends from Haixin island in the south to Huangpu avenue to the north.
Surrounded by dozens of new architectures including the Opera House, the Guangdong Museum, West Tower and many more, Huahai Square is the centerpiece of the Urban Development Plan. Tall Banyan trees, flowers and bamboo create a green and peaceful environment in the heart of the CBD.
Municipal Library
The latest building to have shed it's temporary skin of scaffolding is the new municipal library located besides Guangdong Museum. Named Dielianhua ("butterflies lingering over flowers"), the building resembles a pile of books forming the Chinese character "Zhi".
Haixin Island
To the south of Huahai Square is located Haixin Island, another attractive landmark near completion. Unfortunately, people shall have to wait until after the Asian Games to walk freely around the island as it shall take host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Asian Games. Oleander and Peach trees shall be planted on the eastern side of the island and a small lake is even being built.
