On Nov.16, the State Development and Reform Commission held the national high-tech service industry base awarding meeting at the 12th Shenzhen Hi-tech Fair. Mr Peng Sen, deputy director of the State Development and Reform Commission, on behalf of the City of Guangzhou was awarded a plaque, as well as 14 other national high-tech service industry bases. The Science and technology-based high-tech service industry is a new service industry, built on the basis of a new business model, of service process and management concept. High-tech service industry includes information technology services, biotechnology services, digital content services, research and design services, intellectual property services and technological outcome transformation services, etc. It is understood and now recognized that the high-tech service industry in Guangzhou has begun to take shape and that major industrial clusters relating to information technology, biology, digital content research and design have come into being. The Guangzhou Development and Reform Commission has indicated that Guangzhou would intensify support for the high-tech service industry during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan", so that the gross income of the whole city's high-tech service industry would reach RMB 600 billion with an added value of RMB 250 billion in 2015, which takes up 15% of the whole city's GDP.
