The 29th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) was held at Guangzhou's Garden Hotel Saturday (November 13). Zhang Guangning, Vice President and Secretary General of the GAGOC, was awarded by Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), for the Guangzhou government's contribution to the Asian Games.
Zhang said the honor goes to all the local people and the organizing committee for the six-year preparation.
OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said he "is happy and honoured" to be in the City of Flowers, and predicted that Guangzhou would hold one of the best Asian Games.
"We have been working hard, shoulder to shoulder, with our friends and colleagues in the organizing committee ... just to prepare a good environment to start our Asian Games," Al-Sabah said after an OCA executive board meeting on November 12.
The assembly also decided which sports would be dropped from the program of the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Candidate countries for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, including Annecy (France), Munich (Germany) and PyeongChang (Republic of Korea), reported their Candidature Files, which describe their Olympic projects.
