Twenty nine consular officers in Guangzhou visited the China-Singapore Knowledge City on the morning of December 9 under arrangements by the Guangdong Provincial Foreign Affairs Office. The visitors lavished praises on the Knowledge City's approach to building "a small government and a large civic society".
The delegation of consular officers was headed by the Consul-General of Canada, Francois Rivest, and included consular officers from Switzerland, Belgium, Japan and Republic of Korea. They toured the Guangzhou Development Zone and Luogang District and visited the China-Singapore Knowledge City, China's ultimate development zone; GRG Banking, China's largest ATM manufacturer; and the Guangzhou International Sports and Performing Arts Center, one of China's top three NBA stadiums.
At the showroom of the China-Singapore Knowledge City, Fu Wenbo, deputy director of the Economic Development and Science and Technology Bureau of the Guangzhou Development Zone, briefed the visitors on the Knowledge City's "One-Road-and-Three-Stream" Project, which is aimed at "building a small government and a large civic society".
The visiting consular officers were impressed by the project. "It's very important for the government to play a proper role, especially when it comes to small and medium-sized enterprises, as they are the main force driving economic growth," said Martin Woller, commercial consul of Austria, "and the China-Singapore Knowledge City has set a shiny example for Guangzhou's future."
