While the newly uncovered 668-meter waterway has won praises far and wide, authorities say the plans for further construction will align the brook's pedestrian appeal with the Seine River in Paris, adding another element of charm to Guangzhou.
The Lizhiwan ( ) brook was originally a branch of Guangzhou's Pearl River. Now it is regarded as a masterpiece amongst the ASIAD renovation projects.
While the newly uncovered 668-meter waterway has won praises far and wide, authorities say the plans for further construction will align the brook's pedestrian appeal with the Seine River in Paris, adding another element of charm to Guangzhou. "In the future, boats shall be able to navigate through this waterway which connects the Pearl River at its outfall near Shamian Island through a 4-kilometer waterway," said Zhou Yawei, Liwan district secretary of CPC commission. "Visitors are likely to experience the unique city view in Guangzhou as if touring in Venice," he said.
Not long ago, Guangzhou Daily launched an addition on local scenery attractions. In an interview with Guangzhou Daily, Zhou said he thinks highly of this campaign and that it will be a show case for Guangzhou's achievements over the past 10 years.
Having worked for over 4 years in the Liwan administrative district, Zhou is proud of local famous sites. He revealed that the Liwan government has recommended 10 sites in this campaign including the new attractions of Lizhiwan, Dashahe Wetland Park, Guangzhou Flower Expo Garden, the Pearl River embankment in Fangcun, Julong Ancient Village and Huadi River.
