Guangzhou Trying to Build Low-carbon Community Enterprise Venues Park This Year

Guangzhou will commence its comprehensive plans to build a low-carbon city this year, by preparing for a low-carbon city appraisal system that will transform it into a provincial low-carbon demonstration city.

On Feb 12 the Guangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government held the working conference for construction of a low-carbon city in Guangzhou. Zhang Guangning, Guangdong provincial Party committee member and Guangzhou municipal Party secretary, stated that the Municipal Government will commence its plans to create Guangzhou into a low-carbon city.

He stated that Guangzhou is striving to encourage the general level of low-carbon industries to use modes of production which achieve low carbon emissions by 2013; reduce the energy consumption for per unit of GDP to between 0.54 and 0.56 ton standard coal; and reduce the carbon emission intensity by about 3% annually by 2015, which will prove to be better than set national and provincial standards for the same period.

Zhang Guangning further stated to achieve these goals efforts will be made to build a provincial low-carbon demonstration city.

To successfully promote the development of low-carbon economy and construction of a low-carbon city, Guangzhou will unveil the "Planning Outline for Construction of Low-carbon City in Guangzhou", formulate a low-carbon city indexes system and appraisal system as well as special action plans, etc. so as to guide the whole city to build a low-carbon city and enjoy green life.

It is reported that the low-carbon pilot project is promoted in the low-carbon city construction plans commencing this year and that superior communities, enterprises, venues and parks will be chosen for the pilot program, so serve as leaders to create popular and valued low-carbon brands for use both at home and abroad.
