On Jan. 18t Mayor Wan Qingliang, of the Guangzhou Municipality had a meeting with Girija Pande, the Asia-Pacific business manager of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Both sides conducted an in-depth exchange of views on the development of the service outsourcing industry and the promotion of IT implementation. Chen Mingde, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipality and Xie Xiaodan, Secretary General of the municipal government also attended the meeting.
On behalf of the municipal government, Mayor Wan expressed his warm welcome to Girija Pande and his colleagues. Mayor Wan pointed out that Guangzhou was one of China's demonstration cities in service outsourcing. In 2010, the contractual value of Guangzhou's service outsourcing industry amounted to 1.879 billion U.S dollars, up by 173.11% year on year. The Party Committee of Guangzhou Municipality and the municipal government have attached great importance to the development of modern service industries. During the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan, the municipal government will seek to develop Guangzhou into an intelligent, low-carbon and happy city and achieve a transformation of economic growth patterns. In the meanwhile, modern technologies, including cloud computing will be fully tapped to promote the development of the Internet, the information industry and the intelligence industry. Mayor Wan also emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide between the urban and rural areas.
As the largest outsourcing enterprise of the world, Tata Consultancy Services boasts a large pool of talents in technology and network. As always, the municipal government encourages the TCS and other strategy-oriented enterprises to invest in Guangzhou for mutual benefits and reciprocity.
Girija Pande expressed his agreement with the strategic policy of transforming the economic growth pattern and developing modern services. He also expressed his admiration for the impressive achievements registered by Guangzhou in recent years. The concept of low carbon and environmental friendliness, as he said, is in line with the mission statement of Tata Consultancy Services. He indicated that the TCS stood ready to further its cooperation with Guangzhou in talent cultivation, project development and technological upgrading. He said that Guangzhou was fully capable of making its cooperation with the TCS successful, as evidenced by its success in hosting the 16th Asian Games.
