Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang paid a fact-finding visit to Huadu District on the morning of March 8. He visited Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd., Unipres Guangzhou Corporation, and Huadu Automobile Industrial Base. During the visit, the mayor said the Guangzhou will continue to build the city into a center for aviation, automobiles, eco-friendly development, robust economic growth, and human resources.
He required Huadu officials to ensure that no new illegal structures are constructed around the five runways of the airport, stressing that local officials will be held accountable for failure to do so.
Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. boasts China's largest-span aircraft hangar, which can accommodate four wide-body planes at the same time. Singapore Technologies Engineering Co., Ltd. is expected to kick off the construction of an aircraft maintenance facility by the end of June.
Upon its completion, the Baiyun Airport will have about 15 hangars for aircraft maintenance, making it the world's largest aircraft maintenance center. Mayor Wan called on accompanying officials to allow sufficient room for the growth of the airport-related economy by formulating plans for the upcoming five, ten and even twenty years.
