Performances condensing the most thrilling moments of the Guangzhou Asian Games' opening ceremony will be shown in May at the Haixinsha Square, the original site. As an option for Canton Fair guests and locals during the Labor Day holidays, the shows will last for ten continuous nights from April 29 to May 8.
The 16th Asian Games was held in November 2010 and was directed by Chen Weiya. As assistant director of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games he was invited to create the opening design in Guangzhou. Marine elements based on the Pearl River Delta and an unbelievable lighting installation amused the audience. Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies were priced from 1,600 yuan to 6,800 yuan, which was considered by many to be overpriced.
This concentrated version has gathered the original crew and limited the audience numbers to 9,000 per show. Ticket prices are reasonable for most people - 180, 280, 480 and 880 yuan. Every night some fortunate audience members, randomly selected will light the cauldron. However fireworks and celebrity performances will be revised.
