RMB 723 Billion Worth of Deals Inked in Beijing

The Asian Games have reshaped the host city of Guangzhou and the opened up vast business opportunities. On March 21, Guangzhou's highest-level investment promotion event in a decade, the "New Guangzhou, New Business Opportunities" Beijing Promotion Seminar, kicked off in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People. The seminar targeted Fortune 500 companies, China's top 500 private enterprises, and enterprises directly under the Central Government. Guangzhou's superb investment environment and entrepreneurial opportunities drew the attention of the world's international economic corporate giants. On the same day, a total of 140 investment deals were signed, involving a total investment of RMB 723 billion. Approximately 80 percent of the deals are related to the modern service industry, advanced manufacturing industry, high-tech industry, strategic emerging industries, and R&D platforms.

Zhang Guangning, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and secretary of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, presided over the promotion seminar, and spoke to the executives from global enterprises to promote the new business opportunities in Guangzhou.

The significant number of high-quality investment deals signed at the promotion seminar demonstrated Guangzhou's economic strengths and industrial competitiveness.

Of the 140 deals, 45 were inked with enterprises directly under the Central Government, involving a total investment of about RMB 453.8 billion; nine with signed with state-owned enterprises, involving a total investment of about RMB 16.3 billion; 17 were made with higher-education institutions and scientific research institutes, involving a total investment of about RMB 21.8 billion; 28 were clinched with foreign enterprises, involving a total investment of about RMB 50 billion; and 41 were signed with private enterprises, involving a total investment of about RMB 181.1 billion.

By industry, 39 of the projects are related to the modern service industry, involving a total investment of approximately RMB 289.3 billion; 25 are related to the advanced manufacturing industry, involving a total investment of some RMB 74.1 billion; 25 are related to the high-tech industry, involving a total investment of around RMB 46.5 billion; nine are related to emerging strategic industries, involving a total investment of about RMB 90.2 billion; and 14 are related to R&D platforms, involving a total investment of about RMB 26.7 billion.

These projects are expected to contribute to the further continued adjustment of Guangzhou's industrial structure and the optimization of the city's industrial layout.
