Pepperl+Fuchs is hosting The Fundamentals of Intrinsic Safety (Ex) Seminar on April 29, 2010, in St. Louis, MO, and on June 24, 2010, in Greenville, SC. In this educational, non-commercial training seminar Pepperl+Fuchs will provide an in-depth overview of the theory behind Intrinsic Safety (EX) protection and its proper application within the process industry. Registration is required.
The class will cover a wide range of topics including Hazardous (Classified) location identification, functional principals of zener diode protection and galvanic isolation, entity vs. loop approvals, as well as certifications and control drawings. At the conclusion of this course, attendees will:
  • Understand the basic concepts of Intrinsic Safety (Ex) protection
  • Be able to determine which apparatus (zener/galvanic) best solves a given application
  • Be able to specify and proof a system for intrinsic safety
  • Understand the Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)
  • Understand the basic guidelines for installation and maintenance in hazardous locations
The seminar runs from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The registration cost is $350 per person, which includes materials and lunch. Attendees will receive a certificate for Professional Development Hours upon completing the course.
The use of Intrinsic Safety (Ex) can offer significant savings, reliability and flexibility when compared to other hazardous area protection methods. However the perceived complexities of an IS installation can make it seem like a daunting task. The Fundamentals of Intrinsic Safety (Ex) will help industry professionals overcome those misperceptions to firmly understand how to best make use of this valuable protection method, says David Hohenstein, Department Manager for Hardware and Marketing.
