ABB is launching a new slip ring generator series designed to fit most present 1.5 2.0 MW doubly-fed turbines. The generators feature an enhanced rotor design and modular interface and make its debut in China market on WindpowerAsia 2010.
June, 2010 - Leading power and automation technology group ABB is introducing a new standard series of slip ring generators for the global doubly-fed (DF) concept. The new generators are based on a proven ABB design which has been used by leading turbine manufacturers since 1997, providing reliable and efficient operation in locations all over the world.
The new generators cover the power range 1.5 to 2.0 MW. Their modular and adaptable interface connections ensure easy integration into the different DF turbines in use today. They are also an excellent choice as replacement units at existing wind parks. The standard base construction for different powers enables high quality large-scale manufacturing for fast delivery times, and the modular turbine interface connections can be changed to suit the individual customer s specifications. Either air or water cooling is available, and a 60 Hz version is supplied to customers in the US markets.
Features of the new generator series include a patented rotor design with an optimized winding-end support ring to deliver enhanced overspeed withstand and high cooling performance. The improved insulation level offers high voltage peak integrity and allows the use of various types of converter. The new design also offers minimized Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) levels.
