Actively engaged in the green industry, Formosa Plastics Group FPG a globally leading supplier of plastic resins, has ambitiously allied with upstream LED chip suppliers and reinforced partnership with downstream LED lighting companies recently to integrate its supply chain of LED lightings, according to industry insiders.

Serving as the major pusher behind FPG`s business deployment in the segment for LED lightings, Nan Ya Photonics Inc., dedicated to production of high-brightness LED chips, has allied with Epistar Corp., Taiwan`s largest LED epitaxial wafer maker, acquired stakes in Precision Silicon Corp. and set up a joint venture with Yulon Group, a leading Taiwanese automaker, as strategic moves to expand its influence in the segment.

Besides, Nan Ya Photonics has also worked out a spate of energy-saving lighting products, including LED streetlights, LED lamps, LED bulbs, and LED light bars for cabinets, independently, well on its way to a top-notch supplier of LED lightings.

In the meantime, FPG`s affiliate Formosa Advanced Technologies Co., Ltd. has also been expanding its output for LED testing and packaging, devoted to rear procedure in FGP`s supply chain of LED lightings. The firm noted that it has decided to raise the original budget of NT$3 billion US$93.75 million to about NT$5 billion US$156.25 million at US$1: NT$32 to procure more DDR3 testers and packaging equipment.

The firm has been specialized in LED wafer processing and chip testing as the second-largest in the line on the island, with Epistar, Huga Optotech Inc. and Tekcore Co., Ltd. on its client list. With the aforementioned equipment to be installed and operational in July or August, the firm will also diversify its business into LED packaging soon.

In addition to LED lightings, FPG has also zeroed in on the segment for next-generation batteries, with its subsidiary Formosa Energy & Material Technology Co., Ltd. already engaged in development and production of battery cathode materials and lithium iron phosphate batteries.
