US bridge gets LED lighting makeover

Write: Ima [2011-05-20]

An historic bridge in America has been brought up to date as it has been fitted with LED lights.

The West Dummerston Covered Bridge in Vermont was constructed in 1872 and had been using out-of-date high-pressure sodium light fittings, reports USA Today.

But now the 267-foot structure, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will be using the latest LED lights and it is hoped that the ten new fixtures will be more energy efficient and reliable than the previous ones.

The news provider quotes local resident Alex Wilson, who said: The light quality shows off the beautiful bridge interior much better .

The new lighting is by world-leading specialist Philip Gardco, who has designed it to have a sensor that reduced the amount of light they give out by 90 per cent when they have been inactive for five minutes.

Energy efficient lighting of this sort may become more commonplace after Rambus announced it would work with General Electric to produce more products of this kind.
