Homeowners in the UK are being given more and more reasons to LED lighting due to improvements in the technology, according to an expert.

Dr Brenda Boardman of Oxford Universitys Environmental Change Institute told the Telegraph that the advantages of LEDs are becoming increasingly pronounced, due in part to the growing importance of energy-efficient technology.

She pointed to the fact that LED lights can last around 30 times longer than conventional ones, while also saving money on energy bills.

Moreover, the fact that such energy-efficient technology is becoming the legally-required norm is also helping to bring down the cost of LEDs via market forces, the expert explained.

Dr Boardman added: The crucial thing about LEDs is that they are getting better.

The increasing importance of the LED lighting market is also being recognised by manufacturers, with Philips and Cree agreeing a new cross-licensing arrangement earlier this week which will allow them to supply the growing market more readily.
