LED Price Decline to be Limited in Third Quarter

Due to strong demands for large-size LED-backlit LCD TVs and other applications, a decline in light-emitting diode LED prices will be limited in the third quarter, said market research firm LEDinside on Tuesday.

Demand has been rise for LED products since the second half of last year, and prices have remained stable, a main reason for LED companies to post brilliant earnings thus far this year, LEDinside noted.

LED products saw even stronger demand during the second quarter this year, due to the popularity of various LED-backlit applications, such as large-size LED-backlit LCD TVs. This has caused a shortage across the LED value chain.

The decline had to do with an oversupply in the industry, due to increased investments in the technology on optimism demand may increase, the research firm said.

LEDs for lighting purposes, meanwhile, experienced a more significant price decline in the second quarter, the mainstream model, the 100lm/W LED, saw a price decline of 12 % in the second quarter. LEDinside added.
