A firm in the US has launched a new variety of LED bulb which it states is both more efficient and longer-lasting than traditional lighting technology.
Leds America has introduced its Led-O bulb, a 100 per cent recyclable item which is designed to be usable as a straight replacement for a standard bulb.
The 6W bulb is said to be able to deliver the same lighting output as a traditional 60W bulb and is 50 per cent more efficient than the current standard compact fluorescent lamp bulbs.
In addition, it also functions for more than five years, emits no UV light, contains no glass or fragile parts and is usable in almost any temperature conditions.
Joel Westermarck from Leds America said: We were told this was not possible, but did not give up in our product development and finally solved all the problems.
More and more firms are now beginning to embrace LED technology as an important technology in the lighting market, with Philips and Cree last week announcing a patent cross-licence agreement which will lead to the development of several new LED lighting products.
