LEDs a good investment for HGV drivers

LEDs are becoming increasingly useful to drivers of HGVs and vans as a replacement for conventional incandescent bulbs.

This is the opinion of Chris Knowles, the operations director of truck parts supplier HGV Direct, Materials Handling World magazine reports.

He said the components are much more energy efficient than ordinary bulbs, which tend to waste energy as heat, while drivers of HGV vehicles should find that the LEDs are robust.

LEDs are designed to last 100,000 hours and saving a direct impact are unlikely to fail. And even if one does, because they are in a series, then it does not affect the performance of the total unit, Mr Knowles added.

He also noted that LED bulbs have an instant on/off, whereas the incandescent options take more time to glow up or down.

Earlier this month, Dr Brenda Boardman of Oxford Universitys Environmental Change Institute told the Telegraph that LEDs are quickly becoming cheaper and brighter.
