Optoelectronics are becoming increasingly important to manufacturers in a wide range of different product areas, according to a report.

Global Industry Analysts has published a report which suggests that optoelectronics are to see a range of uses in coming years in sectors such as consumer products, medical devices and cars.

These include medical lasers, the fastest-growing segment in the global optical equipment and systems market, as well as display devices, optical fibres and optical disk equipment.

The report also indicated that Asia-Pacific is the fastest-growing optoelectronics market in the world, with the US and Europe behind it.

According to estimates from the analyst, the worldwide optoelectronics market could be worth as much as $932 billion $606.8 billion by 2015.

This comes after the Electronic Components Association revealed earlier this week that overall sales of electronic components around the world hit a two-year peak in June 2010.

Rapid Electronics is a leading UK supplier of energy saving products, electronic components and electrical equipment.
