The Royal Society has said that teachers and education ministers need to ensure that children are encouraged to enjoy science and technology lessons.
A report from the organisation showed that pupils are currently being put off careers in computing and engineering because lessons in ICT and the curriculums are not engaging enough.
According to BBC News, research from the Royal Society has revealed a 33 per cent drop in the number of both GCSE and A-level students taking ICT subjects between 2003 and 2009, which could have a negative effect on the industry in the future.
Professor Steve Furber, chair of the study, said: If we cannot address the problem of how to educate our young people in inspirational and appropriate ways, we risk a future workforce that is totally unskilled and unsuited to tomorrows job market.
The Royal Society also recently claimed that primary schools need more specialist science teachers if they are going to succeed in helping children receive high quality education in the subject.
