Installing solar panels in the home can play a key role in persuading consumers to commit fully to making energy-saving improvements in their lifestyles.
This is the view of Daniel Green, chief executive officer of solar energy firm HomeSun, who stated that installing photovoltaic panels is seen as a badge of honour by many.
He suggested that roof-mounted solar panels are a public display of a homeowners commitment to energy saving, saying this can help to change wider attitudes to carbon reduction.
Mr Green explained: If you start watching the electricity that you are generating and also see your bills coming down, suddenly it becomes a way of life.
The company is currently looking to promote energy-saving technology by providing ?1 billion worth of free solar panels to homeowners in the next three years.
It will recoup this money by claiming the feed-in tariffs generated by the panels, while the householders will benefit from free energy.
