New research has suggested that utility firms across the globe are becoming increasingly willing to investigate the energy-saving benefits of solar power.
According to a poll conducted by Gartner and the Solar Electric Power Association, the falling price of installing the technology is encouraging more companies to invest.
For example, in Germany 75 per cent of utility firms now use photovoltaic PV technology as part of their energy resource portfolio, while the figure stands at 44 per cent in the UK, with a further 33 per cent considering using it within five years.
Alfonso Velosa, research director at Gartner, said: PV systems are attractive to many organizations and individuals as they can be designed relatively easily, in a wide range of sizes and to fit in many different locations.
Other factors which are driving adoption of energy-saving renewable technology are an increasing number of government mandates, as well as a need to meet green energy targets.
Last month, Frost & Sullivan published research suggesting that solar technology is soon to become more versatile and widespread, allowing it to be incorporated into lanterns and backpacks.
