LED chip packaging house Unity Opto Technology saw August revenues slip 4.6% sequentially but up 58% on year to NT$670 million US$20.979 million Revenues from January through August totaled NT$4.62 billion, exceeding the NT$4 billion for the entire 2009. The monthly decline is largely due to inventory adjustments by panel makers and retailers to lower inventory of CCFL panels and CCFL TVs, the company said.

Though third-quarter sales have been weaker than expected, with downstream players actively cleaning inventory and new LED TV models scheduled for launch in the coming months, the fourth quarter should see significant growth, company chairman CH Wu indicated. Coupled with the rising popularity of smartphones and LED lighting applications, order visibility has reached the end of the year, he said.

Fellow packaging house Everlight Electronics posted NT$1.632 billion in August revenues, down 5.6% on month but up 46.11% from a year ago. Revenues from January through August rose 69.16% on year to NT$11.403 billion

LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy registered NT$501 million in August revenues, falling by 6.67% sequentially but representing an increase of 123.52% on year. Revenues from January through August reached NT$3.133 billion. The company expects demand from the TV sector to soon pick up in September and LED lighting applications now account for 20% of revenues compared with about 10% earlier in the year.

Lextar's August revenues dropped by 2% sequentially but gained 218% from a year earlier to NT$911 million. Revenues from January through August came to NT$5.528 billion.
