Sales of semiconductors are to generate revenues of $300 billion 194.9 billion this year as a result of high demand for electronic products.
According to new figures from Gartner, the semiconductor sector is expected to grow by 31.5 per cent compared to last year, with sales of products such as tablet PCs, mobile phones and DRAM and NAND memory on the rise.
Revenues from semiconductor sales are expected to continue to grow into 2011, albeit at a slower rate, with a worldwide total of $314 billion predicted for next year.
Bryan Lewis, research vice president at Gartner, said the first half of the year has been very strong for the semiconductor industry, but added that electronics vendors are likely to adopt a more cautious stance in the coming months.
This echoes the findings of the Semiconductor Industry Association, which published a report last month showing that more semiconductors were sold in the second quarter of 2010 than during the first three months of the year.
