Taiwan's leading light emitting diode LED packagers reported robust earnings in the first half of this year, with Everlight Electronics Co., Ltd. topping the peers with after-tax net earnings of NT$3.7 per share.

Unity Opto Electronics Co., Ltd. netted NT$2.15 per share, gaining 1.4 folds from the same half of last year. In the meantime, Harvatek Corp. earned NT$1.13 while Bright Led Electronics Corp. made NT$1.02.

Everlight, currently Taiwan`s No.1 LED packager, scored NT$1.4 billion US$43 million at US$1:NT$32 in after-tax profit throughout the first half of this year, more than double the amount it made a year earlier.

Unity raked in NT$661 million US$20 million in after-tax earnings on revenue of NT$3.2 billion US$101 million in the first half of this year. The revenue result represented a 118% increase year on year and constituted 81% of the total NT$4 billion US$125 million

Although many of its domestic peers are estimated to see revenues grow only moderately in August, Unity expected its August revenue hit a new high. The company's chairman, C.H. Wu, ascribed the impressive growth in the first half of this year mostly to early entry into manufacturing of LED backlights for midsize and large-size liquid crystal display LCD panels and good effect of its presence in LED lighting market.

Regardless of inventory buildup slowdown at some customers so far this quarter, Unity remains bright about market prospect for the fourth quarter, estimating the buildups will be back on normal pace in anticipation of strong demands for LCD TVs and lighting products. The company projects orders to grow 40-50% in the second half this year from the first half.

In the second quarter, Bright had after-tax net earnings of NT$166 million US$5.1 million spiking 3.75 folds quarter on quarter. The quarter earnings helped swell the company's profits for the first half of this year to NT$201 million US$6.2 million

Harvatek reported after-tax net earnings of NT$120 million US$3.7 million or NT$0.61 per share, in the second quarter alone, sending its net earnings for the first half of this year rising to NT$1.13 per share.
