Energy saving initiatives in the UK have received a fillip with news that an increasing number of UK homeowners are installing solar panel technology.
Statistics released by Ofgem have shown that 3,606 solar photovoltaic devices were fitted to British households in August 2010, the highest level ever recorded.
This surge coincides with the introduction of the feed-in tariff scheme, which allows homeowners to sell their excess energy back to the National Grid, with the figure far exceeding the previous high of 1,736 this July.
David Matthews, chief executive of the Solar Trade Association, told NewEnergyFocus.com that this increased interest in renewable technology is a welcome step towards achieving parity with other EU nations.
He called on the government to maintain its support for the sector, saying: We don't want to see boom and bust, so let's make sure that market intervention is balanced.
This comes after energy firm Solar Fusion stated earlier this month that the introduction of new technology is likely to encourage more people to adopt solar power in the near future.
