Nanhai No. 1 built to be a brand name of Yangjiang city

Yangjiang will promote Nanhai No. 1 to the world and make her an international brand, said Chen Zhiyue, Vice Governor of Yangjiang city, during a press conference in Guangzhou News Center on Nov. 25th.

A plan for the excavation of Nanhai No. 1 is formulating and has been submitted to the State Cultural Bureau, said the Vice Governor, when it is examined and approved, the plan will be carried out as soon as possible, he added.

Nanhai No. 1 was found in 1987 and salvaged in 2007. It has already attracted nearly 350,000 visitors since its opening to the public on December 24, 2009. It is estimated that relics buried under the silt can reach from 60,000 to 80,000 pieces. Up till now, there are 6,000 pieces of relics excavated form the ship, including gold, silver, iron, copper coins and ceramics. Most of the ceramics are from three kilns, namely, Longquan Kiln in Zhejiang Province, Dehua Kiln in Fujian Province, and Jingdezhen Kiln in Jiangxi province.

Chen Zhiyue indicates, Yangjiang will make Guangdong Maritime Silk Road Museum the center for maritime Silk Road research and development, based on cultural relic protection, environment harmonization and tourism development.
