BEIJING, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- A senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Saturday said law enforcement work should be orientated to serve the people's needs.
Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Political and Legal Affairs, made the remarks when meeting with model law enforcement figures.
Zhou applauded the efforts of outstanding law enforcement officials in safeguarding the public's legal rights.
Saturday marked the 10th National Law Awareness Day. In the past 10 years, a total of 78 people have been publicly commended for their outstanding performances in law enforcement, including judges, prosecutors, police officers and lawyers.
Zhou hoped all law enforcement officials would carry out their work in a fair and clean way, and ensure the public could enjoy social equality and justice.
Zhou also urged the nation to further carry out the publicity campaign that aims to promote legal knowledge to increase public awareness of law, and create a sound environment for respecting law.
The campaign is aimed to give people the requisite knowledge enabling them to protect their legal rights and interests, he noted.
